Strong earthquake disrupts transportation and infrastructure in Kyushu

Following yesterday's earthquake, strong aftershocks were also felt in Kumamoto City and nearby prefectures today. A tsunami warning for the Ariake Sea and Yatsushiro Bay has been canceled. As of July 29, dozens of significant aftershocks had been recorded. The entire Kyushu Shinkansen bullet train line remained out of service, several regular train lines were halted, and many sections of highways and other roads were closed due to damage, rockfalls, and bridge inspections. Flight cancellations continued at Kumamoto Airport, although the airport has resumed normal operations. Bus and ferry services were also disrupted. Disruptions are expected to continue over the next few days.
