Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level heatwave warning, with temperatures of 45–47°C expected in several southern and southeastern provinces through July 31. Temperatures of 42–45°C are also forecast in Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, Meknes, Beni Mellal and other inland areas through August 1. The extreme heat may affect outdoor activities and increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and localized wildfires. Advice: Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours. Drink water regularly and remain in shaded or air-conditioned locations. Do not leave children or animals inside parked vehicles. Following yesterday's earthquake, strong aftershocks were also felt in Kumamoto City and nearby prefectures today. A tsunami warning for the Ariake Sea and Yatsushiro Bay has been canceled. As of July 29, dozens of significant aftershocks had been recorded. The entire Kyushu Shinkansen bullet train line remained out of service, several regular train lines were halted, and many sections of highways and other roads were closed due to damage, rockfalls, and bridge inspections. Flight cancellations continued at Kumamoto Airport, although the airport has resumed normal operations. Bus and ferry services were also disrupted. Disruptions are expected to continue over the next few days.

Anti-government demonstrations continue in central Tirana, with recent protests near Parliament escalating into clashes between demonstrators and police. Police used tear gas and water cannons after objects were thrown at officers. Further gatherings may cause road closures, traffic disruptions and an increased police presence near Parliament, Skanderbeg Square and government buildings. A powerful swell generated by Hurricane Genevieve is expected to reach Southern California from July 29, prompting high surf and coastal flood advisories through August 1. Waves of 5–8 feet, with sets reaching 9–11 feet at exposed south and southwest-facing beaches, are possible across parts of Orange, San Diego, Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Dangerous rip currents, strong longshore currents, large breaking waves and minor coastal flooding may affect beaches, harbors and low-lying coastal areas. Advice: * Avoid entering the water during hazardous surf conditions. * Swim only near staffed lifeguard stations and follow local beach closures. * Stay away from rocks, jetties, piers and exposed shoreline areas. * Monitor local weather and coastal warnings before visiting beaches.

Authorities have issued warnings for heavy to very heavy monsoon rainfall across Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh through August 2. Landslides, flash flooding and rising river levels have already caused road closures and transportation disruptions in several mountainous areas. Access to parts of the Char Dham pilgrimage routes in Uttarakhand has been disrupted, while landslides and flooding have blocked multiple roads in Himachal Pradesh. Additional closures, prolonged travel delays and temporary isolation of mountain communities and tourist areas are possible. Advice: * Avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous areas and check road conditions before departure. * Do not travel on mountain roads at night or during heavy rainfall. * Stay away from rivers, streams, steep slopes and areas affected by landslides. * Allow additional travel time and follow local emergency instructions.

A significant heatwave is expected to hit Austria, with temperatures soaring to 40C, particularly affecting the eastern regions and increasing the risk of severe thunderstorms.

A new heatwave is expected to begin on July 29 and continue through at least August 2. Temperatures may reach 39-41°C across south-western river valleys and 40-42°C in the Ebro Valley and north-eastern inland areas. Heat warnings are already active across 13 regions, with an increased risk of heat-related illness, wildfires and disruption to outdoor activities.

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto at 16:27 local time, damaging buildings, roads and infrastructure. A shopping mall partially collapsed following an explosion, leaving several workers missing or trapped. Rail and flight services were also disrupted. The tsunami warning has been lifted, but strong aftershocks and further landslides or building collapses remain possible.

A Flood Watch is in effect from 08:00 on July 28 until 08:00 on July 29. New York City may receive 50–75 mm of rain, while localized totals of up to 125 mm are possible elsewhere across the wider warning area. Flash flooding may affect streets, highways, basements, underpasses and other low-lying areas, potentially causing localized traffic and public transportation delays.

* Do not drive or walk through flooded roads or underpasses.
* Follow local emergency alerts and move to higher ground if flooding develops.

Authorities have issued warnings for severe storms and flooding across Rio Grande do Sul through July 29. Some areas may receive more than 100 mm of rain within 24 hours, accompanied by strong winds, hail and intense thunderstorms.

River levels are already elevated, and several state roads are partially or fully blocked due to flooding and infrastructure damage. Additional road closures, urban flooding, landslides and localized power disruptions are possible.
