Authorities describe this as one of the most significant outages in recent months, worsened by Cuba’s chronic grid instability and fuel shortages. Restoration is ongoing, but full recovery may take days, especially in areas dependent on weakened local infrastructure. For travellers, the blackout is already causing service disruptions, including reduced hotel operations, limited food and water availability, communication issues, malfunctioning ATMs, and potential delays at airports due to inconsistent power supply and strained backup systems. The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology has issued an Extreme Heat warning for parts of Western Australia. Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning as heavy, persistent bands of lake-effect snow are expected off Lake Huron over the next day. Under these bands, visibility could drop to near zero with heavy snow. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible near Kincardine.
