Volcanic Alert

Caution

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has raised the Volcanic Alert Level to 3 (Do not approach the volcano) in response to increased activity at the Shindake and Furudake craters. Access within a 2 km radius of both craters is now forbidden. This level is the second-highest on the official scale and reflects the risk of ejected volcanic blocks, pyroclastic flows, and heightened seismicity near the crater zones.   Advice: - Avoid the restricted zones within 2 km of Shindake and Furudake craters. - Do not hike or approach high-altitude areas on Kuchinoerabujima; the risk of falling debris is elevated. - Comply with all access restrictions and signage issued by local authorities. - Stay informed about updates from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the meteorological office of Kagoshima Prefecture.
