Volcanic Alert

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has raised the Volcanic Alert Level to 3 (Do not approach the volcano) in response to increased activity at the Shindake and Furudake craters. Access within a 2 km radius of both craters is now forbidden. This level is the second-highest on the official scale and reflects the risk of ejected volcanic blocks, pyroclastic flows, and heightened seismicity near the crater zones.   Advice: - Avoid the restricted zones within 2 km of Shindake and Furudake craters. - Do not hike or approach high-altitude areas on Kuchinoerabujima; the risk of falling debris is elevated. - Comply with all access restrictions and signage issued by local authorities. - Stay informed about updates from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the meteorological office of Kagoshima Prefecture.

A tropical depression, soon to become Storm Wutip, is located east of the Hoang Sa Islands and is causing prolonged heavy rainfall in the region. From the evening of June 11 through June 13, central provinces can expect rainfall amounts ranging from 100 to 300 mm, with some isolated areas potentially receiving over 450 mm, particularly between Quang Binh and Quang Ngai. The Northern Central Highlands may see rainfall totals up to 150 mm, with short-term extremes exceeding 200 mm. Authorities have issued urgent directives to prepare for flash floods and landslides.   Advice: - Avoid non-essential travel in affected areas, stay indoors during thunderstorms, and avoid sheltering under trees or near metal structures. - Check road conditions and travel arrangements to prevent disruptions and delays. - Stay alert for flash floods, landslides, and road closures, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas. - Do not attempt to cross flooded streets or landslide-prone zones. Over 5 days of demonstrations, the unrest involved freeway blockades, rock-throwing, graffiti, looting from some 23 businesses, and roughly 200 arrests before the curfew; an additional 25 arrests occurred on Tuesday night for curfew violations.
