Storm ‘Eowyn’ Alert

Country: Ireland

Location: Nationwide

Storm 'Eowyn' is forecast to make landfall on the Irish and UK coasts early on January 24, bringing devastating winds of up to 160 kph and torrential rainfall that will persist through January 26. This storm is projected to be the most powerful in decades. Coastal areas will face life-threatening conditions, with strong winds and high waves threatening to cause significant structural damage and flooding. Low-lying regions are particularly vulnerable, as heavy rain and storm surges could lead to widespread inundation. The storm is also expected to disrupt travel, with slippery roads, debris, and low visibility creating hazardous conditions for drivers. Further inland, the powerful winds and heavy rains could result in sporadic power outages, leaving some areas without electricity for extended periods. Authorities will provide updates as the situation evolves.   Advice: Limit unnecessary travel throughout the UK and Ireland between January 24 to 26. Prepare for power outages by charging devices and gathering supplies. Closely check road conditions before traveling. Plan and prepare for disruptions to all forms of public services.
