Violent protests erupted across Italy relating to the death of 19-year-old Ramy Elgaml in November 2024. Clashes in Rome and Bologna have left at least eight police officers injured. Protesters attacked the synagogue in Bologna, causing property damage, while arrests were made during demonstrations in Bologna's city center, with two individuals later released.   Advice: Avoid protest-affected areas, especially in Rome's San Lorenzo neighborhood and Bologna city center. Tight security is in place ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Ganderbal District on Jan. 13. The prime minister will inaugurate the Z Morh Tunnel and address a rally in Sonamarg. A nationwide public sector strike is scheduled from 22:00 Jan. 12 to 22:00 Jan. 13. Disruptions are expected across transport, education, and public services. Brussels Airport (BRU) anticipates significant flight delays, and SNCB rail operations will face widespread interruptions. Public transport in Brussels, including buses, trams, and metro services, will experience major disruptions. Demonstrations are planned at Place de l'Albertine from 10:00 and near Gare du Midi from 10:30. Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi is tracking west-southwestward in the Mozambique Channel after landfall in northern Madagascar. The system is expected to intensify into an intense tropical cyclone by Jan. 13, with risks to western Madagascar and Mozambique’s coastal areas. Risks include coastal flooding, storm surges, and heavy rains in southern regions. The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) has urged caution.   Advice: Avoid low-lying coastal areas and waterways to reduce flood risk. Exercise caution if traveling in affected regions. Secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary journeys during adverse weather.  

Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi is moving through the Mozambique Channel, following landfall in northern Madagascar on Jan. 11. Heavy rainfall exceeding 12 cm (5 inches), strong winds up to 130 kph (81 mph), and coastal flooding are expected. Meteo Madagascar has issued:

• Red Cyclone Alerts: Diana, Sava, Bealanana, Antsohihy, and Analalava districts.
• Red Heavy Rainfall Warnings: Analanjirofo and Atsinanana regions.
• Red Strong Wind Warnings: Coastal areas between Antsiranana and Toamasina, and Antsiranana to Analalava.
• Red Heavy Swell Warnings: Coastal areas from Bobaomby to Mahanoro and Maintirano.

Advice: Avoid affected coastal areas and limit non-essential travel. Refrain from attempting to drive through flooded areas. Heed all weather warnings and local authorities guidelines.  

Due to severe weather, flight disruptions are anticipated at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) in Boston, Massachusetts, through at least late January 11. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has implemented a ground delay program, which is currently in effect until at least 9:00 PM. A tram collision occurred near Strasbourg-Ville Station in Strasbourg on January 11 at around 3:30 p.m. A switching error caused a moving tram to collide with a stationary one, resulting in approximately 30 injuries and significant damage to the trams and tracks. Emergency services are on-site, and a security perimeter is in place. Tramlines A and D are suspended between Parc des Sports, Poteries, and Langstross, Grand Rue, until further notice as the investigation continues. Disruptions and heightened security are expected.   Advice: Check your rail travel plans, prepare for delays, and consider alternative transportation. Follow any instructions from authorities.
