Landslide Alert

Location: Jungle Chatti (Jungle Chatti Ghat), on the Kedarnath trekking path - Rudraprayag District, Uttarakhand

Around 11:20 AM local time on June 18, a landslide struck near Jungle Chatti Ghat on the popular Kedarnath pilgrimage trail. Heavy boulders and debris fell onto pilgrims, palanquin carriers, and porters. Tragically, two individuals were killed on the spot, and three others sustained injuries. Emergency operations were underway.   Advice: - Avoid trekking in landslide-prone sections, particularly near Jungle Chatti, if rainfall is expected. - Check weather conditions before starting; steep terrain combined with monsoon showers increases danger. - Stay alert while hiking- listen for falling rocks, stay clear of slopes, and don’t linger in risky areas. - Follow instructions from authorities- holidays, route closures, and evacuation orders may be enacted without notice.

Highways Blocked Alert

Heavy monsoon rainfall and resulting floods and landslides have caused partial or complete blockages on at least six major highways across Nepal as of this morning: - Koshi Province (Dhankuta): Rabi Rake–Bhedetar Rd open with one-way traffic due to a landslide at Sangurigadhi. - Bagmati Province (Sindhupalchok): Araniko Highway was fully blocked at three sites - Kodari, Larcha, and Koplang, by landslides. - Lumbini Province (Gulmi): A landslide blocked Kaligandaki Corridor (NH49) entirely at Barlaba. - Karnali Province: Jumla-Mugu Rd opens one-way at Chulelgaun; Bheri Corridor in Dolpa is completely blocked at Chalghat. - Sudurpaschim Province (Darchula): Gokuleshwar–Khalanga Rd is closed due to a landslide. - Lamjung (Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Rd): A landslide near Chyamche has blocked the route. - Nawalparasi (East-West Highway): Binayi River flood washed out a diversion. Road clearance operations are ongoing, but re-blockages are possible due to continued rainfall and unstable terrain.   Advice: - Avoid travel on affected highways- delays or detours are likely as restoration continues. - Postpone non-essential travel, especially in mountainous or remote areas prone to further landslides. - Plan alternate routes, such as southern East-West corridors or Koāshi local roads where feasible. - Follow instructions from local authorities, traffic officers, and road crews on-site.
