Health Alert – Cholera Outbreak

Location: Marromeu District, Sofala Province

Mozambican health authorities declared a cholera outbreak in Marromeu district after identifying 32 confirmed cases and 3 deaths within two weeks. This follows ongoing seasonal outbreaks largely affecting northern and central regions, including Sofala, with nearly 3,900 cases and 59 fatalities reported nationally since October 2024.   Advice: - Make sure you are vaccinated against Cholera. - Practice good hygiene; wash your hands with soap and clean water, especially before eating and after using the restroom. - Drink only boiled or treated water. Avoid untreated water such as tap water, ice, street drinks or from open sources like rivers and lakes to eliminate potential contaminants. - Eat thoroughly cooked foods and avoid raw or undercooked items. - Seek prompt medical attention if experiencing signs of Cholera, including sudden onset of severe watery diarrhea, vomiting, muscle cramps, and rapid dehydration. ​ - For more information on Cholera, check the attached link.
