Tropical Cyclone ZELIA Alert

Tropical Cyclone ZELIA has formed over the Timor Sea and is tracking southwest toward central Western Australia. As of February 12, it is approximately 155 km north of Port Hedland, with sustained winds of 114 km/h. ZELIA is expected to intensify to 190 km/h before landfall near Roebourne and Karratha on February 14. Over the next 96 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges are forecast over coastal and central Western Australia, particularly the Pilbara region. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a warning for gales over most of this region.   Advice: Avoid coastal and low-lying areas and unnecessary travel. Secure loose objects, keep an emergency kit nearby, stay indoors during storms, and move to higher ground if flooding occurs.
