A drone attack on the Saudi Teaching Maternal Hospital in El-Fasher, North Darfur, killed at least 70 people, including patients receiving critical care, according to the UN. The strike, attributed to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), destroyed the hospital's emergency building and comes amid an ongoing siege of El-Fasher by the RSF. The UN and WHO condemned the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law, emphasizing the devastating impact on Sudan’s already crippled healthcare system.   Advice: Avoid all travel to El-Fasher and surrounding areas due to active conflict and escalating violence. If you are in the region, seek shelter away from conflict zones and monitor updates from trusted sources. Humanitarian access is severely limited; prioritize safety and prepare for disruptions to essential services.

Protests erupted in Wukro town, Tigray, on January 26, 2025, over a controversial call by senior Tigray military leaders to dissolve and restructure the region's interim administration. Demonstrators opposing the decision accused security forces of violently suppressing their protests, with reports of three individuals injured and detained before being released. The protests reflect deep divisions within the region, with rival factions supporting or opposing the military's move. While this protest was yesterday it is expected to continue as the tensions in this area are currently reported as 'high'.   Advice: Avoid Wukro and surrounding areas as tensions remain high and further clashes are possible. If you are in the region, exercise caution, stay informed through reliable local updates, and avoid large gatherings or protest sites to ensure your safety.  

Austria is experiencing a surge in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases, compounding the strain on healthcare systems already dealing with a severe flu epidemic. Hospitals are reporting increased admissions, particularly among children and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to these respiratory illnesses.   Advice : Stay up to date on flu and RSV vaccinations, including RSV vaccines for older adults and monoclonal antibody treatments for infants. Practice good hygiene by washing hands frequently, wearing masks in crowded spaces, and avoiding contact with sick individuals. The Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) has categorized the severity at the Information level, with preliminary satellite data indicating no major population centers within the affected area.   Advice: While the wildfire besides the security threatcurrently poses limited direct risk to populated areas, residents and travelers near Nasir should remain vigilant and monitor updates from local authorities. If you are in the vicinity, avoid the area west of Nasir and prepare for potential air quality issues or disruptions to travel routes.  

Meteorological officials have issued a red flood warning for Ille-et-Vilaine, including Rennes, and orange flood warnings for Calvados, Eure, Orne, Mayenne, and Maine-et-Loire through January 28 due to Storm Herminia. Yellow wind and flood warnings remain in effect for much of the country. Flooding has impacted roads near the Canal d'Ille-et-Rance in Rennes. Road accidents in Kenya are increasing at an alarming rate. According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), at least 13 people were killed daily in traffic-related incidents in 2024. December 2024 recorded a particularly high toll, with over 470 fatalities, marking it as one of the deadliest months in recent years.   Advice: Exercise extreme caution when traveling on Kenyan roads. Prioritize using well-maintained vehicles and experienced drivers. Avoid night travel whenever possible, and check road conditions before traveling.    

A bomb threat has been reported at KES International School in Kandivali, Mumbai. Authorities have evacuated students and staff while the Kandivali police and bomb disposal teams conduct a thorough search of the premises.   Advice: Avoid the area around KES International School until the threat is cleared. Stay alert if operating in or near Kandivali. Follow all instructions issued by local authorities and monitor local media for updates on the situation.  

Southeast Australia is experiencing a severe heatwave, with Melbourne's expected temperatures reaching 41°C, significantly above the January average. Authorities have issued fire bans across several parts of Victoria, where fire danger is rated as extreme, the second-highest level. Hot and windy conditions are increasing the risk of large fires. This heatwave affects all regions of Australia, with temperatures expected to rise further until January 31.   Advice: Stay indoors in cool, air-conditioned environments whenever possible. If you must go outside, take frequent breaks in shaded areas, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities. Keep an eye on official updates regarding fire warnings and evacuation orders. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any signs of heat-related illnesses.  

Traffic restrictions will be implemented at Vijay Chowk and nearby roads on January 27 and 28, from 2 PM to 9:30 PM, for the Beating Retreat rehearsals, which marks the end of the Republic Day festivities. The affected areas include Vijay Chowk, Rafi Marg, Raisina Road, Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg, Sunehri Masjid, and Kartavya Path.   Advice: Avoid these areas during the restricted hours.
