Emergency crews are battling multiple wildfires amid strong winds threatening over 13,000 structures in Los Angeles County. The Palisades Fire has burned 1,182 hectares (2,921 acres), prompting evacuation orders for over 30,000 residents. The Eaton Fire near Altadena has burned 162 hectares (400 acres), with additional evacuations issued. Power outages affect 50,000 people, and a state of emergency has been declared. Road closures include parts of the Pacific Coast Highway.   Advice: Avoid the vicinity of fires, and evacuate immediately if in an affected area. Access to and from Maputo International Airport will likely be disrupted due to possible violent protests. Roadblocks are expected to be set in place to minimize the risk of violence.   Advice: Avoid Maputo International Airport on the morning of January 9 if possible. 🌏 HMPV Virus Outbreak Alert

As of January 7, 2025, an outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), first detected in China on December 16, has spread to several countries, including India, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The virus, similar to COVID-19, poses a serious risk of respiratory illness, particularly for children under 5, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. India reported two new cases today, bringing its total to five, with cases in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Singapore have also reported rising infections, prompting concerns over its rapid spread and severity.   Advice: Maintain good hygiene by washing hands regularly and wearing masks in crowded places. Vulnerable individuals, including young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, should take extra care. Road Closure Alert
