Presidential candidate Venacio Mondlane has announced his return to Mozambique on the morning of January 9. Access to and from Maputo International Airport will likely be disrupted due to possible violent protests. Law enforcement may use tear gas, rubber bullets, or even live ammunition to disperse demonstrators and clear roadways. Roadblocks are expected to be set in place to minimize the risk of violence.   Advice: Avoid Maputo International Airport on the morning of January 9 if possible. As of January 7, 2025, an outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), first detected in China on December 16, has spread to several countries, including India, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The virus, similar to COVID-19, poses a serious risk of respiratory illness, particularly for children under 5, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. India reported two new cases today, bringing its total to five, with cases in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Singapore have also reported rising infections, prompting concerns over its rapid spread and severity.   Advice: Maintain good hygiene by washing hands regularly and wearing masks in crowded places. Vulnerable individuals, including young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, should take extra care. The Uganda Police Force has issued a traffic management plan for the African Union Extraordinary Summit taking place January 9–11, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Over 2,000 participants, including dignitaries from 49 AU member states, are expected to attend, focusing on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP). Key roads, including the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway and routes around Munyonyo, will face closures and diversions to ensure secure access for delegates. Manchester Airport has closed its runways following significant snow accumulation, while Liverpool John Lennon Airport has also shut down its runway due to snowy conditions. Similarly, Leeds Bradford Airport has suspended operations because of adverse weather, impacting regional flights. Birmingham's airport has ceased overnight operations to allow for snow clearing and ensure passenger and staff safety.   Advice: Avoid traveling to affected airports, including Manchester, Liverpool John Lennon, Leeds Bradford, and Birmingham, due to severe weather closures.
