Presidential candidate Venacio Mondlane has announced his return to Mozambique on the morning of January 9. Access to and from Maputo International Airport will likely be disrupted due to possible violent protests. As of January 7, 2025, an outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), first detected in China on December 16, has spread to several countries, including India, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The virus, similar to COVID-19, poses a serious risk of respiratory illness, particularly for children under 5, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. India reported two new cases today, bringing its total to five, with cases in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat.
